ALEX ROUK was born in Russia in 1956, where he started his professional career. In 1983 he graduated from Vladivostok Art College as a painter. In 1990 he received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Moscow Art University (formerly Stroganovka), where he studied sculpture for 5 years. He has exhibited his works in numerous art shows throughout Russia.

Since arriving in Canada in 1996, he has had 14 solo shows and many group exhibitions. His works are displayed in private and public collections in North America, Europe and Russia.

After studying as a painter and sculptor, Alex has decided to combine these two skills in his minimalist works. His wall sculptures are comprised of a multitude of repetitive forms and gradations of colours. The choice of three dimensions over two allows him to use many materials, such as wood, plastic and metal.

Alex’s art reflects the modern world we live in, a time of high technology and speed, beauty and complexity, contradictions and harmony. The forms of his wall sculptures are very precise and sometimes aggressive, but the colour combinations he chooses for his works are very bright and optimistic, sometimes tender, reflecting the balance in life.

Take a moment to view Alex’s works because one sculpture is worth
a thousand words!
